Suggest Treatment For Persistent Asthma Attacks

having an asthma attack for 2 days now and it subsides then comes back. Used albuterol inhaler with no benefit. Did two vials of albuterol sulfate in nebulizer yesterday and had some relief. I did one about 30 min ago and no real relief. Do not know if safe to do another.. Also have Ipratropium for nebulizer - do not know if I should use or not. I also take an anti inflammatory for arthritis - Maloxicam - and had not taken it I took it and it seemed all symptoms vanished in about 30 min. But have com back today and have already used max dosage of malaxicam. also using chest decongestant dextrometorphan + guaifenesin on e every six hrs - usually helps but not too much today - do not know if Okay to take closer than six hr interval.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi,

By your history and description, you are having acute exacerbation of asthma. And so you will need long acting inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).

Sometimes oral or injectable corticosteroid is also needed to reduce bronchospasm. So better to consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
