Suggest Treatment For Persistent UTI And Painful Urination

Persistent UTI s. Recently took a trip and had what I thought was honeymoon cystitis and began taking Bactrin (they give it to me for these episodes) I also took several AZO tablets. After experiencing sharp pain and foul smelling pain breaking through meds for four days, I went to clinic. My urine tested positive for infection with my blood in urine at 50! And WBC at 500. I was given a shot before leaving and a script for Cipro. They have sent off the culture, should I be concerned? I can t believe how high the WBC was. Thank you

Urologist 's  Response
Hi,
Both the blood in urine and WBCs are not unusual in a severe infection, but the good news is it usually clears fairly rapidly after treatment has been started. Ciprofloxacin is a good drug under the circumstances but you might have to change once the culture report comes in.
Drink plenty of fluids as well, and citra-alka syrup thrice daily could help reduce the discomfort.
