Hi, The lump could possibly be an inflamed lymph node, a boil, or a cyst. The presentation of parotid tumor is slower growth, pain/ numbness of face on affected side due to compression of nerves or/and blood supply. The lymph nodes on other hand drain both pre and post auricular area extensively, and boils / cysts are common in the area. It is best to wait and watch for another week or two. If the pain worsen you can most certainly take tablet Panadol as required, use cold compress and avoid pressing or squeezing the area. If the lump doesn t resolve in couple of weeks or starts to discharge pus; get checked by a GP immediately as this could be a sign of underlying infection. Take care.
