Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Shoulder Blade

My husband has complained for the last 36 hours of pain, but not in the chest area. It is in his shoulder area and he had me rub Tiger Balm on his right shoulder blade area and then from the top of shoulder down his right arm about half way to the elbow. This man - we have been together 20 years and he is 75 yr old - has never, ever complained of hurting anywhere, had the flu, but that is all. He is never sick and won t take anything I suggest, I also suggested hot packs and he keep the on the areas for about 10 minutes and said it isn t helping. Does this sound as if I should take him to the Emergency Room or could wait until his Dr. gets in the office? As I said, he is never sick and takes no medication. He just had his 6 month check up with his Dr, about 1 month ago. Thank you for your answer. K. Rogero

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I suggest you go to the ER and do some blood tests, troponin I, an ECG, abdominal sonography as first.

Seems like a gallbladder problem but should also be excluded a heart problem or a problem with the aorta.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anila Skenderi, General & Family Physician
