Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Hip Area

I fell this morning in garage on by left hip area. I have no bruising appearing on hip but pain in hip area. Think it may have landed on greater trochanter. If it is only bruised what can in do for comfort at this time? heat or cold compresses? if bruised how long should I expect before pain subsides?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in hip area after fall is most likely ligament sprain or strain around hip region. Following measures will help better recovery:
- Local application of heating pad 5 minutes each 3 times a day
- Analgesic with anti-inflammatory actions such as Ibuprofen, Diclofenac or Aceclofenac
- Use spray or ointment containing Diclofenac, linseed oil or camphor to soothe the area
- Avoid sudden or prolong weight bearing on same side leg

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
