Suggest Treatment For Occasional Pressure And Pain During A Miscarriage

Hi I am 35 yrs old and i have just found out i am six weeks pregnant...i became pregnant while on birth control so ut was a complete surprise to me. I went to the ER because I was bleeding heavy and they gave me blood and urine tests and that is how i found out i am pregnant. I was then given an ultrasound and i was told that the fetus showed no activity and i will miscarry. I have not miscarried yet and the bleeding stopped but i have occasional pain and pressure and have also felt generally ill and having some pain in my left arm and difficulty breathing at times. Why havent i miscarried if the fetus died and can it cause more serious problems for me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Miscarriage is a process where the uterus gets contractions ,to open up the mouth of uterus & the uterine contents are squeezed out with contractions. The lady undergoing abortion does have to tolerate pain through out the process.
The time taken for complete abortion depends on the severity & frequency of uterine contractions. Spontaneous abortion can take as long as 1-5 days for the process to complete.
You have contractions, bleeding has stopped- & have not expelled fetus out.The symptoms you have are partly due to abortion process itself& partly due to psychological tension.
* please don't worry, abortion is mostly a safe/process when under an experts care.
consult a gynecologist- after examining you ,you will be subjected to certain pathological tests like CBC, Blood group& rh typing, USG abdomen (if needful) to assess the stage of abortion& your health status.
- following this suitable treatment is given to complete the process ( antibiotics,Injections for completing abortion IM/IV/ MTP evacuation may be needed in few cases.
Everything is very safe- please don't worry.
Thanks.
