Suggest Treatment For Muscle Spasms Under The Ribcage

I have been having muscle like spasms under my left ribcage. It started right after I had a rib go out of place last week. However, now the rib in back into place and the spasms come and go from time to time. It almost feels like my heart is beating right under the area of concern.

Hi,

It is definitely possible that you may be experiencing spasms with a previous history of a displaced rib. The surrounding muscles would have been slightly injured when the rib was displaced and it can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to heal muscle. Rarely up to 6 weeks.

A warm compress and the use of anti-inflammatory pain meds (even if there is no pain, would still help to reduce the surrounding inflammation), may help.

Examples of anti-inflammatory meds- naproxen, ibuprofen etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
