Suggest Treatment For Migraine With Aura And Tension Type Headache

Man, aged 42, suffers with migraine with aura and tension type headache. He has suffered with migraines since a teenager. Has two migraines per month and during his attacks has visual disturbances and numbness in one side of his body. Is currently taking beta blockers and has tried relaxation therapy and osteopathy. On a scale of 1-10 he rates his pain as an eight. Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your doubts

I can understand your concern. He is having classical migraine with aura and the episodes of headache are persisting with about 2 episodes per month. He is on beta blockers for prophylaxis but still his symptoms are persisting. Due to his persisting headache he has lost his job. If we consider taking his history then history of any excessive coffee, tea should be ruled out. History of type of headache should be included like what is the type of pain, dull aching type or throbbing type. Any aggravation of headache with sunlight, noise should also be ruled out. In physical examination any localised tenderness should be included to rule out any temporal arteritis risk.

For persisting headache apart from beta blockers medicines like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline can be used. These medicines will reduce the frequency of episodes. For very severe pain medicines like Sumatriptan, Rizatriptan can be used on SOS basis. Please consult a doctor for treatment and prescription of his medicines.
