Suggest Treatment For Metallic Taste In Mouth Along With Dry Mouth

My taste has changed within the last few weeks. Metallic taste. Although medication I take, and some for long time, never affected my taste. Recent new drugKlor-con M10 Tab 10Meq ER. I have sleep apena, so I require the use of Cpap. Dry mouth is a issue. I recently started the use of Biotene oral rinse. Another item I use recommended by dental maintenance for gums is MI Paste which comes from China. For about a week I stopped MI Paste. Has not made any difference. I also have breathing issues and take prescription drugs for this and know to rinse mouth etc.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the problem of dry mouth is due to the CPAP machine that you are using and it is a relatively common finding with people using CPAP machine which helps in providing air to the patient's throat and helps in keeping airway patent which at times leads to a dry mouth..
A few treatment and remedies that can be done are:
-Use a full covergae mask that helps in reducing the dry mouth and improves breathing..
-Using xylitol containing adhesive disks like ORACOAT XYLIMELTS can provide a soothing coat indsie mouth and can be used during day and night as it helps in stimulating saliva flow and creates a soothing coat indise mouth and helps in reducing discomfort caused by dry mouth..
-During day time chewing sugar free chewing gums and lemon drops can also help in stimulating saliva flow..
-Saliva stimulants containing methylcellulose known as ARTIFICIAL SALIVA can be instilled in mouth to relieve dry mouth..

Metallic taste in mouth can be due to dry mouth as in dry mouth there is more of bacterial and fungal proliferation and more acid produced in mouth can alter the taste..
Other thing is that due to dryness the tongue papillae that contains taste buds does not function accordingly as saliva is required for their proper functioning and in absence of saliva they may get atrophied as well as there is altered taste..

The Klor Con 10 tablet contains Potassium Chloride which is metallic halide and it has a metallic and salty taste when dissolved in water therefore it can also be a cause of metallic taste in mouth, so alteration in dosage and maintaining a better saliva quantity in mouth can provide some relief..

You should consult an oral physician and get evaluated and get treated according to the cause..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
