Hard lump on the back of neck just below the top of the spine.when pressed, causes slight pain.my doctor has prescribed me some anti-bacterial capsules(flucloxacillin), as he thinks its a boil? I have had a complete thyrorectomy? 5/6 years ago for a cancer lump on the side of the neck, which was removed resulting in 60 metal clips across the neck.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump in the neck which is mainly lymphnode swelling. I would suggest you to consult a general physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and FNAC/BIOPSY of the nodes can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly. In case of infection antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicine and warm compresses over the nodes can help in resolution. Take diet rich in multivitamins. Apply warm compresses on lump and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well soon.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
