Suggest Treatment For Loose Motion

Hi doctor, since morning I am suffering from loose motions. Since afternoon frequency has increased to every ten to fifteen minutes. I had taken one lomofen in the morning and one just now. I do have ache and cramp sort of thing in my stomach. I have not taken any food other than water since morning. Any thoughts or opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

As per your clinical description it seems that you are having diarrhea due to some infection, and the frequency you have had might already have made you very weak. In this case the first concern is to assess and treat the state of your dehydration. So if your tongue is dry, blood pressure is low and you are passing less urine than usual then you should immediately visit any nearby hospital for intravenous fluid resuscitation and further management.

For the time being, if the symptoms are less severe i would advice you the following:

1. Do not take plain water (that would cause more electrolyte imbalance in your body in this condition), instead take plenty of ORS (1 sachet in 1 litre of water each), frequent sips.

2. Use some anti secretory agents like Racecadotril (Tab Redotil 100mg) twice daily for 3 days.

3. Some combination antimicrobials like Ofloxacin and Ornidazole (Tab O2) twice daily for 5 days. Try to have less spicy normal diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Md Firoz Mullick
