Suggest Treatment For Less Growth And Speech Disorder In Children

My 2 yr old nephew is small for his age, just had his adenoids removed to improve his hearing, isn t saying any words. His nose is very flat and he doesn t look like either of his parents. Autism has been ruled out. He just doesn t look right to me. I have looked for sites where I could enter his symptoms to see if they match some obscure anomaly. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your nephew may have some developmental concerns, so it is best to consult a pediatrician or a geneticist for further evaluation. Your nephew's physical features and developmental delays may indicate a rare genetic disorder or syndrome.

A geneticist can help confirm or rule out any specific conditions and guide management and treatment. Additionally, a speech therapist may be able to provide support for your nephew's language development.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Anesthesiologist Dr. Pallavi.m's  Response
Hello,

Adenoid swelling leads to mouth breathing and mouth breathing leads to flat nose, open mouth, narrow pitched nostrils, dull mask like face, crowded teeth. Thus, his face might have the above mentioned features. small for age is also common in children with adenoids. As he had the surgery done, I hope he will improve from now.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
