Suggest Treatment For Lacerations

I am currently expecting my third child. With my previous two I had 4th degree lacerations both times. I healed just fine from that but my Obgyn is afraid I won t be as lucky this time and is giving me the option to have a csection. My question is, have you heard of a woman with 4th degree lacerations multiple times, healing without any major problems? Thank you for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Repeated lacerations or tears are not common as prophylactic episiotomies are generally given. Having had two prior experiences like this, I would suggest you go ahead with your OBGYNs option of a C-Section to prevent a repeat episode of the same. As for the healing, generally, if sutured up properly, healing of even 4th degree lacerations is common.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
