Hi,

Keratoconus is a condition in which the cornea of the eye becomes thinner and bulges into a cone-like shape, which can lead to distorted vision. The condition can be treated with a variety of methods, including cross-linking, which is a procedure that strengthens the cornea to prevent further bulging. Cross-linking is a safe and effective treatment for keratoconus, but it is important to find an experienced and qualified doctor to perform the procedure. Your doctor should be a board-certified ophthalmologist who has specialized training in corneal disorders and has experience in performing cross-linking procedures.

To find out more about your doctor's qualifications, you can ask about their training and experience in corneal disorders, specifically in cross-linking. You can also ask about their success rates with the procedure and any potential risks or complications. It is important to feel comfortable and confident in your doctor's abilities before undergoing any procedure. In terms of the order of treatment, it is common for cross-linking to be performed before cataract surgery, as the cross-linking can strengthen the cornea and make it more stable for cataract surgery.

However, the timing and order of treatment may depend on the severity of your keratoconus and other individual factors. It is also important to note that cross-linking is not FDA-approved in the United States, but it is approved in many other countries and is a safe and effective treatment for keratoconus. You should discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure with your doctor before making a decision.
