Suggest Treatment For Itchy Welt On The Chest

I have a welt on my chest. It showed up yesterday and was the size of a nickel. By evening, it was the size of a quarter and itched. I took an antihistamine. Tonight, it is 2 inches round and has red dots in the center (in a about the size of a dime, in a square-shape). It itches again. Any ideas?

Hi,

Well, itchy welt can be due to any insect or bug bite or can be due to any contact allergen like any soap, detergent etc. It can also be a ringworm infection that is fungal in origin. So it is advisable to once get it checked by a Physician so that the exact cause can be ruled out.

For now you can apply a combination of a steroid and anti fungal ointment like Betnovate GM and also take Levocetrizine and see if it improves. You can also do cool compresses over it. Avoid scratching it vigorously as it can worsen. Wear loose cotton clothes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
