Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On Calves And Ankles

I have a rash on my calves and ankles that itches. I also have a light rash straight down my adams apple. And I believe I am getting it on my chest and face. Eeek! About 10 years ago, I had similar but worse rash on my legs and arms for 2 years. The doctor gave me desoximetasone cream and had me take benadryl every night for those two years. It finally randomly went away, and I think it may be coming back. But my dermatologist never really knew what it was.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The long term skin rashes can be part of auto immune response of some sort in most of the cases. In my clinic, after thorough physical examination and history, I do recommend a skin biopsy for best evaluation in details and guide accordingly. As a long term steroid cream is also associated with loss of skin receptors and atypia changes leading to recurrent rash development as protective cells are numb and dead.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
