Suggest Treatment For Itchy Eyes While On Benedryl

Right eyelid and above eye are puffy and a little itchy. Have never had allergies like this before. tried a low dose benedryl haven t noticed much difference in puffiness. Did go to local rapid care to rule out pink eye. In the night it teared a little and did have crusty sticky stuff on. Used warm washcloth to clean it. Doesn t hurt just annoying and wonder what a syptoms a stye may have. Never had one of those either. Thanks, Lonie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Stye would cause a painful red pimple with a small white area at the level of the eyelashes. The symptoms you describe are not typical of stye but possible allergic conjuctivitis or an insect bite in the area.

If you have no pain in the eye and no changes in vision, you can continue to do the warm washcloth to clean the eye and taking benadryl (this might cause you to be sleepy though) and if no improvement in 3-4 days or any worsening you will need to see your doctor.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj,
