Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My gums around one upper side tooth is itching so badly. I go every 6 months for cleanings. I have had a cold for a few days and a lot of sinus pressure with headache and fever. It itches so bad in just that one spot that I keep scratching the area with my finger nail. It feels good to scratch it that I drool even. Why is this and what should I do please?
As per your complain itching in one area of the gums is most commonly due to localised deep infection in the gums leading to Periodontal Pocket formation. Due to deep pocket formation the area becomes itchy, sensitive and painful while at times there can also be blood and pus discharge.
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray can help. You can be advised a deep scaling and curettage followed by a course of oral antibiotics like Metronidazole and painkillers like Ibuprofen followed by gum paint massage. As of now you can do warm saline gargles and apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
