Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Fever In An Infant

My grandson is 19 months old. He is congested and running a temperature. He was taken to a Dr. today and was told to take him home he had a virus and give him Ibuprofen as needed for fever. This child has been running a temperature off and on for some time. I am concerned that if he has an infection and this is let go he could go septic. Thank you. Mary
