Suggest Treatment For Insomnia

Can a high ESR be linked into a bowel issue. I have got ESR in the 60 s-80 s, heavier at 126kg, (yes I know, not good). My bowel is either constipated or diarrhetic, no inbetween and I have been getting migraines. I have been on pitozitifen for 3-4 months now and while it has helped the insomnia isnt helping.

Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that these levels of ESR indicate the presence of inflammation.

Inflammation coupled with these bowel changes, could be caused by ulcerous colitis or Chron's Disease.

The migraine headaches coupled with the presence of inflammation could be explained by vasculitis or Temporal arteritis.

For this reason, I would recommend performing further tests to investigate for the possible causes:

- an endoscopy of the lower digestive tract, coupled with gut biopsy if necessary
- a brain MRI
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- ANA and ANCA for a possible autoimmune disorder.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Meanwhile, I would recommend starting Melatonine 5 mg before sleep, in order to help you have a better sleep.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Wishing all the best, Dr. Aida
