Suggest Treatment For Inflammation Of The Navicular Bone

How common is Navicular Gout? I had unexplained Navicular pain, negative X-ray for fractures, and diagnosis of Inflamed Navicular bone. Pain subsided after a week of great discomfort. Now. Month later, I wake up from slep with renewed Navicular pain. Raw to the touch, slightly inflamed and red and increasingly uncomfortable. Should I do a CTHULHU c Scan or MRI to gat a better view of what is going on. The sudden onset made me think of Gout but the MD does not see this as I do not fit much of the Gout profile? Any thoughts on what I am dealing with or next steps...

Hi,

Navicular bone inflammation is a condition that can be caused by various factors, including stress fractures, tendonitis, or arthritis. The diagnosis can be confirmed with imaging studies, such as a CT scan or MRI, as you mentioned. Regarding Navicular Gout, it is a relatively uncommon condition. Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. While gout can affect the navicular bone, it is not a typical location for gout attacks.

Since you are experiencing renewed pain and discomfort in the affected area, it would be best to follow up with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your symptoms and determine the appropriate course of action. Depending on your situation, they may recommend additional imaging or refer you to a specialist.

In the meantime, you can manage your symptoms with rest, ice, compression, and elevation of the affected area. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen may also be helpful. However, it is important to discuss any medication use with your healthcare provider first, especially if you have any medical conditions or take other medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
