My son was shot in the abdomen and he loss his left kidney, spleen, a portion of pancreas, and a small part of stomach sewn up. He now has an infection/abscess behind his pancreas and is nauseous and doesn t feel like eating. What kind of infection is this and how can you treat this?

Hello,

As your son’s spleen got removed, he is at risk of getting infection specially from encapsulated bacterial infection. Usually vaccines are given to the patients whose spleen is removed. Was he administered any vaccines? I suggest seek medical help form your doctor, some imaging tests need to be done and also it is possible that the doctors would take sample of the infectious site to know the exact cause behind this.

He needs immediate management with proper antibiotics. I suggest you take him to ER and get him examined. The doctors will be able to manage the situation efficiently at ER and will suggest necessary tests if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
