Suggest Treatment For Increased Blood Pressure Levels
I am a 78- year-old male with high blood pressure. My internal med doctor recently prescribed Amlodipine, 5 mg which seems to work well during the day; however, when I awake in the a.m. by systolic is somewhere in the range of 165. Is this something I should be concerned about?
If you are checking your BP immediately on getting out of bed and sitting up or standing, a minor increase in BP is a normal body response to you standing. What is your blood pressure range during the day. 165mmHg systolic isn't something to be concerned about. I would suggest checking your BP around 30-45mins after getting out of bed and sitting down. If it continues to remain elevated, you could ask your PCP for an increased dose of medication.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
