Suggest Treatment For Increase In Facial Hair And Weight Gain

Dear Dr I have been on Livial for the past 3 months. Due to an increase in facial hair and weight gain, I want to consider Angeliq. Will it be a better option in the long term regards facial hair and weight gain? If not, what will be the better option. I still have my uterus. Thanks Anne

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

This medication is used to reduce menopause symptoms. It helps reduce episodes of flushing and sweating of the upper body and face, commonly called hot flashes.Due to its anti-androgen effect, drospirenone can also be used as adjunct treatment for hirsutism which refers to excess facial hair.

But only after thorough clinical examination and ultrasound pelvis, the drug may be started. The more safer option is to undergo non invasive and cosmetic hair removal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
Dr.Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
