Suggest Treatment For High Fever, Sores On Lips And Raw Spot On Tongue

3 yr old male child had high fever... now has sores on lips and raw space on tongue...he is being treated for bacterial with biotics and prednisone. 3 days, no better. Will not even eat candy... 4 oz of liquid. Giving ibruprophen and tylenol ev 4 hrs but still pain. If it is fungal or viral will the prednisone or antibiotics harm or slow improvement? he has not improved. no bowel movement since fever and worried about dehydration. We may have picked up hand, foot, mouth at a local kid's entertainment 2 weeks ago

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

The symptoms you mention in query are clearly indication condition known as ' Herpetic stomatitis ' it is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), or oral herpes.

Give your child cool, non carbonated, non acidic drinks, such as water, milk shakes to prevent dehydration and reduce swelling.

Maintain proper oral hygiene .

Give him full rest .

Give your child acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain ,swelling and fever .

Use orabase gel to prevent itchiness and burning sensation.

Consult dentist/oral pathologist for proper diagnosis .

Doctor may prescribe antiviral drug like acyclovir for week at least .
