Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
If you supposedly have a blood sugar of 176 and you accidentally ate mints the morning before you went and had blood work done. Would this effect the results? Also would a lot of caffeine in tea or soda that was drunk the day before cause you to have high blood sugar levels. Can you lower your blood sugar by diet and cutting out sugars and carbs so you don t have to go on medicine for type 2 diabetes? Thanks.
Diet can affect blood sugar readings but in the majority of persons, the insulin in the body responds and causes the blood sugar to decrease to normal range.
Most can mount a proper response.
It is possible that if the diet is very high in unhealthy carbohydrates and there is a change that can be continued lifelong, that the blood sugars would decrease. This would have to be combined with activity.
In many cases, medication still needs to added for control to prevent diabetic complications.
It is also important to remember that diabetes progresses as well though progression can be slowed down with a healthy lifestyle.
I hope this helps
