My dad is suffering from heart failure...first we got CABG done 8 years ago...and then he got fine...now stenting has been done to one of the artries 3 months back...as his blood also started to get thick....and from past 6-7 months there even has been a problem of fluid retention in his abdominal cavity and swelling in liver...he has been an alcoholic for 40 years and is a diabetic....the latest echo reports say his ef has now dropped to 16 and in left ventricle there is akinesia of all anteroseptal, posterial, septal, apical and inferior segments...our family doctor says he s not fit for pacemaker or ICD and there is only medicinal treatment...please help and give your suggestions.
I read your question carefully and understand your concern!
I think that your father's condition is really complicated as it seems to be cardiac and liver failure.
These two organs are closely connected, causing failure of each other, also known as cardio-hepatic syndrome.
I don't think that there is much to do in this situation. A good symptomatic treatment of the heart failure with inotropes, diuretics and salt depletion would be necessary.
The fluid retention in the abdominal cavity is a sign of advanced liver failure and a liver transplant at this point would not be helpful.
I recommend you to consult with the gastroenterologist and a cardiologist for the proper treatment to maintain a possible stable condition.
