Suggest Treatment For Headache And Congestion Post A Sore Throat

Hi I ve been experiencing a headache and congestion for 4 days now. I had a sore throat the first several days but it is gone now. I ve taken cold medicine and was hoping it would go away but the headache persists, especially in late evening hours and early mornings. Any diagnosis? Should I see a doctor?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of headache and congestion post a sore throat, well these symptoms are due to sinusitis and upper respiratory tract infection. It seems to be due to poor immunity of body. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day. You should take steam inhalation twice a day. Take paracetamol for fever and headache. You should avoid intake of outside food and cold carbonated beverages. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxiclav at least for 10 days along with decongestant. Maintain proper hygiene. Drink plenty of water and liquids. Take tepid sponging if it is severe headache.Doctor may order test like swab test , blood test , and proper history to rule out condition like acid reflux and strep throat. Maintain proper hygiene and drink plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
