Suggest Treatment For Head Injury

I was putting linen away in our hall closet. After I turned to walk away one of the doors came off the track crashing full force and hitting me in the top/back of my head. I did cry and I had to sit down but what is worrying me is no bump at all has risen. Should I be concerned that there is no bump? I am really afraid.

Hi there,
I am Dr. Deepak, I am an Emergency Physician. I think you are very worried about the injury. Well, the Good thing is there is no bump. you can sit and relax. enjoy your day, and go on doing what you were planning to do.
Pain will take some time to go off. You can take some painkiller's and apply some ice packs for that. If you don't see a bump now, it might rise up by 2-3hrs. Even then its okay.
what you need to look forwards and keep a watch is, if you feel like vomiting, dizzy, not able to walk properly. Then you need to be worried.
Thank u,
hope you recover from your injury soon.

Neurologist, Surgical Dr. Ishu Bishnoi's  Response
Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. To rule out any doubts, we should observe signs which can suggest dangerous head injury

: vomiting
: bleed through nose/ear/throat
: loss of consciousness for more than 5 minutes
: decreasing consciousness
: fits
: persistent headache not responding to painkillers

If you develop any of above signs, you must consult Doctor. He might advise CT head to rule out fracture or brain bleed. Fracture is usually managed conservatively while brain bleed may be evacuated surgically.

If no above sign, you can wait and observe yourself at home. You can follow few tips to relieve pain

: Apply icepacks at injury site
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Keep head at higher level than chest
: If still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Hope it will help you. Thanks.

Take care.
