Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My granddaughters hair has hardly grown any in the last 4 years! She is 5 years old and in kindergarten. She just doesn t understand why her friends have long hair that they can braid and put in ponytails and hers is barely long enough to comb. She gets very upset sometimes, because she just doesn t know why. We have taken her to several different dermotoligist and they say she is healthy and it should be growing. It doesn t fall out, it just doesn t grow! What should we do next?
Hello. There are many medications available for hair growth but they have a lot of side effects too - even for adults! So it would be unadvisable to administer such medications to a child 5 yrs of age. However, what we can do is take care of her diet - make sure she eats a variety of healthy foodstuffs - which will give her body the essential macro and micronutrients. Supplements may be necessary if deficient. However, at this point I would suggest watchful waiting. Every person's hair follicles grow and mature at different times. If they are not falling off then it is definitely a good sign. Hope this helps. Regards, Dr Geeta
