Suggest Treatment For Genital Herpes

Hi. My partner(female) has genital herpes and is being treated, however we have had unprotected sex. What the percentage that she would have gave me herpes. She told me 5% without a condom and 1% with a condom. Just want to clarify if these statistics are accurate

Hello and thank you for your question.
It really depends upon the frequency of contact. With repeated unprotected sex your risk goes up. It is true that herpes can even be transmitted through condoms and we recommend using two condoms to decrease risk of transmission. In one study of couples where one partner was infected and the other was not, 10% of the uninfected partners became infected in one year of exposure. Using condoms and suppressive antiviral therapy in the infected partner can decrease the rate of infection spreading from one partner to the other.
