Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has G.I. bleeding since 12/06/14 When he was admitted to ICCU for 3 days. We had a CTscan, endoscopy and colonoscopy all tests show negative of leaks. Since, we have done a second opinion endo and the camera capsule endo. Not even the carmera detected any leaks. He looses 1 liter every 7 days and has recieved 12 bags to date. We are scheduled next month for the double balloon endo. Is this the right next step or should we get that nuclear image exray first. Or something else? We need to find the leak so the balloon endo can fix it. Blood infusion 2 days ago didn't give him the feel good he usually gets. His CBC tests have been on the high once at 10.1 after first infusion at hospital. But since then, he lives between a 7.3 to a 9.4. I fear of permanent damage if we don't find the answer soon. What are we overlooking. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hello. I think both techniques are good in your husband's case, and me to, I'd suggest double balloon endo first as planned, leaving as a second option only in case of non detecting the "blood leakage", the nuclear image. In a more serious leakage, probably, the first or the exam of choice for the diagnose would be the nuclear image because it doesn't depend on the field of view.
