General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
I can understand your concern for the safety of Heptral in the treatment of fatty liver.

First of all Heptral (S-Adenosyl methionine) is a dietary supplement or a general liver tonic which claims to support the liver functions. However it is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of fatty liver.

Heptral can have potential side effects like indigestion, gastrointestinal problems, anxiety, and insomnia. It can interact with certain other drugs, rarely causing a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.

My advice is fatty liver is reversible condition and by weight loss, strict dieting and avoiding fatty veg and or non veg meals. Take plenty of fruits, vegetables as they contain vitamins and antioxidants which are useful in such conditions.

Hope this answers your query.
