Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Tonsils

I have an enlarged left tonsil for the past 5+ years. I don t think it s always been this size but feeling around there s also a bone sticking out underneath my tonsil next to my tongue. It s under the skin. I also have a clicking sensation in my throat when I swallow, especially when I take a shower. The lump feeling gets worse when I get anxiety, drink coffee or poke at my tonsil. There s no pain. I have had the lump in my throat feeling for almost a year now. It s just annoying. I scheduled an appointment for an ENT in a couple weeks. I m just wondering about the bone sticking out and if that s supposed to be there? It s not on the other side...

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Enlarged/inflamed tonsils (Tonsilitis) can be caused by viral or bacteria infections. In most cases, it is an acute infection unlike yours which is chronic. If caused by a viral infection, symptomatic management will do.However, viral tonsilitis may become superinfected by bacteria and will justify the use of antibiotics.
When tonsilitis is recurrent or persistent or if enlarged tonsils cause upper airway obstruction or difficulty eating, the removal of the tonsils(Tonsilectomy) will be considered. In your case, given the chronic nature and the constant abnormal feeling in your throat, pain medications and even antibiotics may not help much.Tonsilectomy should be a treatment option to consider when you meet your ENT specialist. In the meantime, you may
-Get enough rest
-Drink warm or very cold fluids to ease feeling
-Eat smooth food like ice cream always
-Use a humidifier in your room
-Gargle with warm salt water
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
