Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Enlarged/inflamed tonsils (
Tonsilitis) can be caused by viral or bacteria infections. In most cases, it is an acute infection unlike yours which is chronic. If caused by a viral infection, symptomatic management will do.However, viral tonsilitis may become superinfected by bacteria and will justify the use of antibiotics.
When tonsilitis is recurrent or persistent or if enlarged tonsils cause upper
airway obstruction or difficulty eating, the removal of the tonsils(Tonsilectomy) will be considered. In your case, given the chronic nature and the constant abnormal feeling in your throat, pain medications and even antibiotics may not help much.Tonsilectomy should be a treatment option to consider when you meet your
ENT specialist. In the meantime, you may
-Get enough rest
-Drink warm or very
cold fluids to ease feeling
-Eat smooth food like ice cream always
-Use a humidifier in your room
-Gargle with warm salt water
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
