Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Lymph Glands Underneath The Jaw

I have enlarged lymph glands underneath both sides of my jaw, two days ago i felt tired real quick. Yesterday i had numbness, tingling of the face more on the right but also in the left side of my face around my mouth, tip of tongue tingling, lower lip tingling. I do not have a whole lot of high BP, but a lot of stress. The neurologist nurse I go to gives me neurontin 300 mg four times a day, but also one extra if I need it for neuropathy in my lower legs, feet and hands. I am 61 years old. I take .25 mg synthroid daily, have osteoporosis, all over my body, fx right thigh and r hip with rods and surgical appliance one year ago. But yesterday had the above symptoms in face. WAke u daily with headache top of head. Could this have been TIA yesterday? trud

Hi,

Swollen lymph nodes in neck area are commonly seen and in most cases, if there are no other symptoms, it doesn’t indicate any disease.

However, if there are additional symptoms such as fever, the rapid growth of node, cough, weight loss or excessive swelling then this may be something pathological and require treatment.

In these cases, it is most commonly caused by some sort of infection. The most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is an infection, particularly a viral infection, such as the common cold.

Other possible causes of swollen lymph nodes include: Strep throat, Measles, Ear infections, Infected (abscessed) tooth, Mononucleosis.

Mononucelosis is commonest along young people and this should be ruled out first. Then it can be treated with antibiotics or other medications depending on the established cause.

He should drink more fluids, take ibuprofen and rest as much as possible till symptoms persist. In doubtful cases, lymph node biopsy can be taken but I don’t think this is necessary at this point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
