Suggest Treatment For Elevated ALT And AST Levels

My ALT WAS 1741 and my AST 948 and my liver specialist just kept repeating my labs for 4 weeks until I could hardly walk on my own and I went to an internist who send me to the hospital. This was about 19 months ago and as I look back I just can’t figure out why he didn’t start me on prednisone immediately. What would standard procedure be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If the enzymes are persistently high and the diagnosis is unclear, it is better to go for a liver biopsy to make a diagnosis.
You can seek from a hepatologist for expert opinion.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
