Suggest Treatment For Difference In Level Of Hearing In A Child

my 8 year old has had a cold now since before Christmas. No fever, just congestion, cough. Last night she told me her left ear was hurting and suddenly she was able to hear herself very loudly out of that one. This morning there is no pain just same difference in level of hearing.

Dear friend,

The ear on that side is probably blocked from within by what is called a serous otitis media. The spelling is "serous", not "serious". It means that the ear gets inflammed with watery liquid filling up the middle ear, the reason being the earlier cold that she had. This normally resolves on its own as the cold resolves, so no treatment may be needed. However, if the problem does not subside within a week, take her to the ENT doctor.
