Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI there. I have battled with depression for a very long time (6 or so years), and I managed to get past it about a year and a half ago. Due to recent events, I have found myself spiraling down back into it. I m extremely terrified of being back there. I would not be able to finish my studies and continue working whilst depressed. I self medicate but I am not very fond of pharmaceutical drugs. Please assist me in taking the right steps in making sure I do not get back to that very dark please. Thank you for your time.
Dear User, Going by the symptoms you have listed, I would first think of the possibility of Recurrent depressive disorder. For Recurrent depressive disorder, I usually prefer maintenance treatment with a single antidepressant like Escitalopram (10-20 mg/day) or Sertraline (100-150 mg/day). And in my experience it has been found to be beneficial in reducing the chances of recurrence of depressive episode. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. Dr. Sudhir Mahajan
