Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your problem. The symptoms like talking to family members that are dead, seeing things, forgetfulness etc can occur due to severe depression, psychosis or dementia. Detailed evaluation is needed to make proper diagnosis of his symptoms. For elderly the possibility of dementia is more and this would also explain complaints of forgetfulness. His hallucinations could occur due to psychosis.

Medicines like Donepezil, Rivastigmine etc can help in dementia and antipsychotics like Risperidone can help to reduce his symptoms of psychosis. Consult a psychiatrist for evaluation of these symptoms and for treatment if needed.

Thanks

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Your father may be facing a condition called substance abuse hallucination. As you already know that he is alcohol addict, such hallucinations are normal for any addict. You need to consult a psychiatrist for de-addiction treatment and then a psychologist for rehabilitation. Please do not delay.

If you still need my assistance in this regard, please use this link. http://goo.gl/aYW2pR. Please remember to describe the whole problem with full detail.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
