I got a cold about two weeks ago and have not fully recovered, I m coughing up green/yellow phlem that is very thick and solid. I have a shortness of breath and began to lose my voice yesterday. All the while coughing so much that it wakes me up at night and my upper body is sore. I m avoiding going to the hospital unless I need antibiotics. Any suggestions would be great. thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems that you are suffering from inflammation in the respiratory tract (bacterial infection might be the cause).

You may find relief by taking following medications:
Antibiotics, like Augmentin
Analgesic with anti inflammatory, like Ibuprofen
Antacid, like Rantac
Mucolytic, like Ambroxol
Anti allergic with decongestants, like Levocetrizine with Phenylephrine
Do steam inhalation

Hope this helps.
