Suggest Treatment For Constant Breast Tenderness In A 12 Year Old Child

Hi. My 12 year old daughter is experiencing breast tenderness consistently. She began her cycle in October of 2016 and has since had about 3 cycles. We recently discussed this with her pediatrician who examined her breasts and found no abnormalities. I have advised her to go without wear bras for awhile to see if it improves and add warm cloths. We have just begun this but I would like to know if there is anything I should be concerned about or anything that can relieve her breast tenderness until her next cycle?

Hello,

Mild breast tenderness often occurs premenstrually in association with exercise.

Here are suggestions to relieve the discomfort:

-wear a comfortable supporting bra
-ibuprofen as needed
-three month trial of elimination of coffee, tea, cola, and chocolate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
