I'm sorry you suffer from severe
headaches. This can be very difficult to deal with. Luckily a lot has been learned about headaches in the last 10-15 years which has translated into a lot of people getting better. First, you need a good diagnosis and you should see a
neurologist about these. More than likely you have a primary headache which is either
migraine, tension type (which aren't severe), something in the cluster family, or a rare and unusual type. The most common type of severe headache that is seen in the office is migraine. There has to be a throbbing quality,
nausea, light and sound sensitivity and can last longer than 4 hours. If it lasts less than 4 hours and you can have multiple attacks a day, then this could be cluster. It's hard to diagnose without getting a better history.
There are lots of options for treatment. You would probably need a daily medicine to take to help prevent them. This would include something in the antiseizure, antihyopertensive, or antidepressant family. It would be too long to give you the complete list. Then you would need something to take the headache away, called an abortive. This would be a triptan or ergot or something similar. The goal of daily preventative medicine would be so that you wouldn't have to worry about taking an abortive.
Besides medicine, it is important to have routine, meaning eating regularly, sleeping regularly, and not having a lot of daily caffeine if you suffer from migraine
Again, find a neurologist or headache specialist and good luck with treatment.
