Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough When Diagnosed With Shingles

I have had a chronic cough with mucus for 7 weeks, elevated lipase, high absolute neutrophils and High MPV. An abdominal CT scan showed pleural thickening, lung disease, and pericardial fluid. I m not a smoker. I did have shingles in April and my gallbladder removed last April. I feel it may be autoimmune but my doctor won t perform the blood tests but did order a chest CT.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

An autoimmune condition may affect both the lungs and the heart. It is important to have the proper tests to clarify the cause of the findings in your CT scan. The cough can be due to the lung condition.

Probably first you may have simple tests such as CBC, ERS, RF and ANA. The findings in the CT scan may also guide in the possible diagnosis and sometimes a biopsy of the lung tissue may be needed to finalize the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
