Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Severe Acid Reflux

I am female, 66 1/2, 6.5', 205lb. I have a chronic cough. I also have severe acid reflux. I also have a metallic taste in the back of my throat after coughing. I have had diagnosed GERD for about 3-4 years. My voice is raspy and I wheeze when I lie down and when I first get up. Cough meds do not help. The symptoms have gotten worse in the last 6 months. I was told my my ENT to see a gastroenterologist. Now that I have retired my ENT is not in my insurance plan. Do I have an infection somewhere, or is this a direct result of my GERD?

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello.
GERD can cause chronic cough.
I would suggest to start on Omeprazole which is available as an over the counter medication and continue for 8 weeks.
This should help you with the GERD and in the mean time try to fix an appoi tment with your gastroenterologist.
