Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In The Feet Post A Laminectomy

I had spinal surgery (laminectomy) level 4-5 about 5 months ago. It resulted in some severe nerve damage. The symptoms of burning and stinging and pain in my feet have been continually getting worse. I am just starting neurotin but have to increase slowly as I am very sensitive to drugs. I was just wondering if ice or heat is better for the pain I have. It doesn t take the pain away but seems to a good distraction. Am I making matters worse using either one? Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Thermal approaches to treating neuropathic pain depends on the individual under discussion. There is no consensus on a "good, better, best" temperature. It's really whatever works best for the individual. So have at it and try a compress of ice, one that is hot, and one in the luke warm or cool region of the temperature scale. Which is better for you? Then, that's what you should use.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
