Suggest Treatment For Bruising On Skull After Injury

My 5 year old son was hit in the back of the head at close range with a rock small about 2 inches wide by a neighbor kid. His skull has a small bruise line (red/purple) and he also has two small bumps around the area almost making it look like there is a small dented area. I cleaned it and iced it. My sons behavior is normal but i am worried. What do you recommend / when should I see a doctor?

Hi,

It seems that your son has just damage of soft tissues, hematoma at the area of trauma. You should be worried if son had signs of commotio cerebri such as headache, nausea, vomiting, sleeping state, neurological deficiency etc which is indicator of cerebral injury. You have acted correctly with ice compresses. You should observe your son during later hours if he shows any of above signs. If he shows then you should go to an emergency center for doing the further needed examinations.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Julinda Maksuti, General Surgeon
