Suggest Treatment For Bruise On Forehead And Eyelid

My Mother, aged 92, walked into a metal sign last week. It looks as though she has a fracture involving the area around her left eyebrow. There is now a bruise on her forehead, her eyelid is red and her eye has been weeping. Looking at her face on, it is obvious that her left eyebrow is drooping. She has, so far, refused to allow us (my sisters and I) to take her to the doctor or hospital. What do you think and, if a fracture has, indeed occurred, what is the prognosis or treatment? Thank you, regards, Amanda

Brief Answer:
A check-up should be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

In My opinion following are the possible outcomes of injury if we consider what happened and her age and the fact that she hit the metal sign completely unaware.

(1)Local damage to the area causing internal bleed which is making the area red and swollen (this is the most common outcome we face in daily life)
(2) Fracture at the place of impact (this is indeed far less common but is more frequently seen in older patients and those who hit something unaware and get no time to react)

REASONS OF DROOPING OF EYE LID:

(1) Collection of blood and fluid in soft area of eyelid which gives the feeling that eye lid is drooping.(most common, and has very good prognosis settles by itself without much medication).
(2) Nerve or muscle damage by the impact (this is less common and prognosis depends upon place and structure damaged).

My Opinion:
She seems to have got soft tissue injury due to which blood has collected and bruise is formed this usually corrects itself in a couple of weeks as body clears up the mess, but in this age as one's bones aren't that strong possibility of a fracture can't be overlooked.
Some over the counter Pain killers and anti inflammatory meds like Acetamenophen is usually useful in relieving symptoms.

What Should you do:
(1) Try to convince her to get herself checked up by a doctor and to get some serious injury ruled out.
(2) If i were her doctor i would rule out fracture or a serious injury and start her on Tylenol 325mg twice a day,and some local anti inflammatory cream .and things were expected to be normal in a couple of weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
