Suggest Treatment For Blue Discoloration And Swelling At The Injury Site

MY HUSBAND IS 82 AND FELL AND BLEED IN BETWEEN HIS FINGERS AND THE PINKY FINGER OF COURSE IS BOTHERING HIM. I PUT ICE RIGHT AWAY AND NEOSPORIN AND PUT ON A BANDAGE AND A LOOSE BAND AID. IT NOW IS BLACK AND BLUE AND SWOLLEN COULD THAT BE THAT HIS FINGER IS BROKEN. HE TAKES PERCECOT AND HAS SPINAL STENOIS, AND HAS DEMENTIA WHICH HE TAKES TWO DRUGS FOR THAT. SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT THE BLACK AND BLUE AND SWOLLEN PART OF HIS HAND ON THE SIDE WHERE HE HURT FINGER?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is just a minor inflammation at the wound site:

As a first line management, you can take analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

Generally, the symptoms will settle in a couple of days.

If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
