Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my husband wears an external catheter some days. He is bleeding (red) blood from his penis. He has had prostate cancer, surgery and radiation many years ago. His last PSA as in March 2016, and was 0.0. Do you think the bleeding could be caused by wearing these catheters? Thank you in advance. Bettye
It is possible that there may be trauma induced by the catheter that is contributing to the bleeding but if he has not been recently assessed then this should be done.
An infection of the urinary tract may also cause bleeding, this would require antibiotics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
