Suggest Treatment For Anterior Tibial Tendonitis

Hello- I am writing on behalf of my daughter, Reena, age 20. She has experienced ankle and leg pain cronically for about a year and a half now. Her orthopedist did an MRI and diagnosed Anterior Tibialis Tendonitis. Reena is not atheletic. She works in a child care center. She has done Physical Therapy for it since November and it is still bothering her alot. What would you recommend at this point? Thank you.....Jane Tretler

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
I appreciate your concern for your daughter.
This is the inflammation of the tibialis anterior tendon.
I need to tell you that this takes a little longer time to become normal.
During acute pain episodes you can give her some NSAID analgesics.
Follow some dos and donts
Avoid high heel shoes
Wear soft sole shoes
Continue physical therapy.
Apply ice every morning etc.
Also consult your physician regularly.
Hope this is helpful.
Regards.
